Fifth and Sixth Months of Pregnancy
Things are moving right along in your pregnancy. You probably cannot hide it anymore and you should not want too. Be excited and proud that you are going to be a mother. Do not give in to feelings that you are ugly or unshapely. Nothing could be further from the truth.
The Baby
During the fifth month your baby will grow to be about ten inches long. She already has her baby teeth and is starting to form the permanent ones behind them. Her major organs are pretty much developed by now. She is growing the rest of her finger and toe pads and fingerprints are forming. She loves doing somersaults, although you may still not be able to feel her. Your baby now has an established wake and sleep pattern.
The sixth month brings more growth and she now weighs about 1 1/2 pounds. You can see hair and eyebrows growing. You should definitely feel her moving actively around. You will be able to notice that movement such as walking lulls her to sleep and that when you are resting she wants to exercise.
Mom
Most expectant mothers are feeling much better now. Nausea is gone and so is the extreme tiredness that characterized the early months. This is the best time of your pregnancy. You can still move around easily and are often surprisingly energized. Continue to eat a healthy diet combined with exercise.
You may find that you perspire more or have vaginal secretions. This is because your body is producing more fluids of all types as your blood supply increases to handle the growth of the baby. By the end of the sixth month your belly is definitely out there in front. Sleeping starts to become a bit more difficult as it gets harder to find a comfortable position. But take heart, your pregnancy is now half way over!
Some women experience very mild contractions during the later part of the sixth month. Many times you cannot even feel them. It is simply your body getting in practice. Most women are starting to prepare for the birth of the baby. Shopping for baby clothes and furniture can be fun, but remember not to over do it.
